A digital exhibition I co-developed and created with Katrin Nielsdottir is now available. The multilingual (English, French, and Icelandic) digital exhibition, titled Preserving the Most Precious Heirloom: Icelandic Language Publishing in Manitoba, relates the history of Icelandic Language Publishing in Manitoba from the 1870s to roughly the mid-20th century using text, images, and audio and video clips. The exhibition is a part of Digital Museum Canada’s Community Stories collection and can be accessed here.

A digital archive I developed collecting photos, letters, newspaper clippings, and other archival objects relating to my grandfather W.I. (Bill) Hann’s participation in the Second World War has now launched. Click here to access the website.

A project I developed in collaboration with Katrin Nielsdottir of the University of Manitoba Icelandic Collection, titled “Preserving the Most Precious Heirloom: Icelandic Language Publishing in Manitoba” was recently awarded funding from Digital Museums Canada as a part of their Community Stories program. A new article of mine has been published in the latest issue of the Canadian Historical Association’s magazine Intersections. In the article, which stems from my research project on the so-called “Sunshine children,” I discuss a letter written in the early part of the 20th century by a nine-year-old boy named Tirfingur Hanson of Selkirk, Manitoba. Tirfingur’s letter can be read in full, in both Icelandic and English, here.

The design studio OT.Melsted was recently awarded a Gold Medal in the category of Book Cover Design at the 2024 Icelandic Society of Graphic Designers Awards [FÍT verðlaunin 2024] for their cover design of my book, The Sunshine Children, published by Hin kindin. A new book chapter of mine titled “(Fjölskyldu)hefðin og hæfileiki einstaklingsins: Ljóðlist Theodóru og Jóns Thoroddsens” appears in the recently published volume Menning við ysta haf, Lesið í sköpunarkraft Vestfjarða, edited by Birna Bjarnadóttir and Ingi Björn Guðnason. The chapter, which was translated into Icelandic by Gunnar Þorri Pétursson, deals with the poetry of mother-and-son Theodóra and Jón Thoroddsen.
